Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch were three separate councils until 2019 and are still three separate towns. Bournemouth is the largest, Poole holds the harbour and the expensive end of the coast at Sandbanks and Canford Cliffs, and Christchurch has the priory, the two rivers and a long memory of not wanting the merger. Broadstone, Southbourne and Highcliffe belong to one or another of them and would tell you which.

One authority now runs all of it. BCP Council decides planning along a seafront where every scheme is contested, sets the parking charges, collects the bins and sets the council tax, and publishes the evidence in registers most people never open. We open them and write down what they say, with a link to the document on every fact.
