The Bournemouth Post is an independent news and information site for Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. We report what the public record shows and keep the information residents look up accurate and in one place.
Three towns under one council
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council was created in April 2019 out of three separate authorities, and the merger was not welcomed everywhere. Seven years on, people still say Bournemouth, Poole or Christchurch rather than BCP, but BCP is the council that answers for all of them, so it is the council whose paperwork decides what happens. We cover the whole area: the town centres, Sandbanks, Canford Cliffs, Broadstone and Parkstone on the Poole side, Southbourne, Boscombe, Winton and Charminster on the Bournemouth side, and Christchurch, Mudeford and Highcliffe to the east.
What we report
Planning is the heart of it. On a coastline where seafront and clifftop sites are fought over scheme by scheme, the register is where the argument starts. Along with it we work from BCP Council’s committee papers and budgets, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood and coastal warnings, and company filings in The Gazette.
The boundary that catches people out
Everything north and west of the conurbation, including Wimborne, Ferndown and Verwood, is Dorset Council rather than BCP. They are different authorities with different bin rounds and different rules. We say which one applies rather than leaving you to find out the hard way.
